Transportation at Newcastle Airport

Taxis

The taxi ranks at Newcastle Airport are outside the terminal, at the same end as the Arrivals. Inside the terminal, there is a toll-free taxiphone which can be used to contact Newcastle Taxis. Bookings can also be made on 133 300. The distance between newcastle CBD and Newcastle airport is quite great, so a taxi fare can cost up to $65.

Car Rental in the Terminals

Car rental desks can be found at the Arrivals end of the terminal. These include counters for AVIS, Budget, Europcar, Hertz and Thrifty. Other car rental companies often have airport meet and greet or shuttle services for their off-airport depots, so do some research before booking. Have a look at www.newcastleairportcarhire.com.au for good prices on a wide range of car rentals from different companies.

Bus and Shuttle Services

Port Stephens public buses run routes which stop at the airport and go right into Newcastle. Routes 130 and 131 will both take you into the city, and have regular services running between 5am and 9pm during the week. There are a few services which run between 9am and 7:30pm during the weekends and public holidays. See their website (www.pscoaches.com.au) for more timetable details.

There are also several shuttle bus services in the area. Fogg’s Newcastle Shuttle Bus Service provides airport transfers, and can be contacted via their website- www.foggsshuttle.com.au.
Holiday Coast Connections also runs a timetabled service passing through Newcastle Airport and central Newcastle. See their timetable at www.holidaycoastconnections.com.au.

Motorway Access

The Pacific Highway (A1) will get you into Newcastle from the airport in Williamtown. To get to the highway, head out of the airport on Williamtown Drive and turn right onto Nelson Bay Road. Go right at the first roundabout you come to onto Cabbage Tree Road, and continue straight as it becomes Tomago Road. Tomago Road will lead you straight to the Pacific Highway where you can head south into Newcastle or north up the coast of New South Wales.
